i mean, like, i talk to tax experts, people with law degrees. and they probably know a lot about one part of the tax code. so, there are only like a few people i know who just have an encyclopedic knowledge about the entire thing who could say, in section 140-c-34 -- so those are very few and far between. i know more than many people. host: if somebody sat you down and said, write a book about the u.s. tax code -- guest: i could probably write about it in a more entertaining way. that's why i'm here to sort of bridge the gap between the tax nerds who know a lot about it and the general public. so there's some interesting broad themes about the tax code. host: if you've been focused on this issue for five years and you say you know only not so much about it, why is at that? guest: it's because the tax code is thousands of pages long and that's frequently talked about. as a problem. although i think i know enough about it to say that it's really long for a reason. that the world is very complex and therefore the tax code has to be complex to put i

a problem with lunatic being used in the federal law. and apparently i was the only one here on the floor that didn't have a problem with using the floor lunatic. in fact, it occurred to me that not only should we not use the term lunatic -- and i've eliminated the word lunatic at a time when we are facing national bankruptcy if we don't get serious about our issues, we should also use the term to identify those who want to continue doing business as usual around this town. it's time we got serious. one of the things that would help the administration get serious, because it is a big deal and not because c.b.o. has no clue what it's going to cost as illustrated by $1.1 trillion, $1.6 trillion, and maybe $1.8 trillion. they don't have a clue. they are not allowed to use historic reality, real rules to score. they use fictitious static rule that is just so inaccurate. it would be a joke if it weren't so sad as to what it's done to good legislation. because of the emphasis on tax and all the people that are going to be hit with a tax becaus

law will start to take place. that's $2.2 trillion. we talked about the $716 billion that democrats passed without a single republican vote to reduce the amount of spending in medicare without damaging beneficiaries' benefits. that's close to $3 trillion. where is the balance on the revenue side? never once did any of those two proposals in the budget control act have any revenues attached to them. and so when you keep coming and asking us, where are the cuts, what are you doing on entitlements, we've been doing it. you all either aren't paying attention or don't wish to ask based on the math. so finally one piece of math. you ask why democrats, who are willing to put everything on the table, are so adamant about social security. in 2013, seniors in america are finally going to get a small cost of living increase in their social security. it's going to average about $21 a month. less for some seniors. a little bit more for most. on average seniors who on average get about $14,000 in social security benefits a year

they're going to follow law. they're going to submit to the local officials. the put these in the trash can. this was a case that the local election officials eventually ended up with the state board of elections calling for the attorney general to do an investigation. many have these on both sides of the aisle. i think there are very eager. i think with our specific guidelines we are able to reduce a lot of those issues to a minimum. why do i tell you this tax one of the reasons why virginia and other states are looking at online registration is it takes fact that there may be a duplicate or your name is misspelled incorrectly. i think one reason we have looked at on land registration it allows the voters, if it will help them reduce the mistakes they make, it will reduce mistakes election officials make. it will also increase the integrity of the boat tour rolls. there was some discussion about access vs [inaudible] many in the country have some problems. local and state officials have come to love this system. it is in desperate need of being upgraded. we c

for some reason, we are dropping that law. we need to have that day off to vote, we need to have the polls open for a week. when we identify people, officially identify people, they should be registered as soon as somebody has an official name and address. they should be able to get a note in the mail that tells them where to go to vote. this business -- the question of gerrymandering for congressional districts is a profound conundrum. i do not know how we fix that. but we can at least get people to get to the polls in greater numbers. there are a lot of people who do not want to go in the other direction, who want fewer people to vote, and these voter i.d. laws that are in the name of preventing voter fraud, i take it is a solution without a problem. the voter fraud in this country is pretty much equal to either side and is so low that the amount of people who are discouraged from voting by these new id laws, it is just a bad idea in my opinion. also, if you are concerned about voter fraud, a paper trail for diebold order ma
